What this app is for, what it refuses to be, and what to make of a figure it shows you. The first section is the one that matters.

The one that matters

This app does arithmetic. It does not advise.

This is arithmetic, not advice

money adds up numbers you gave it and shows its working. It does not recommend an investment, name an instrument to buy or sell, pick a rate of return for you, or tell you what you should do. It is not a registered investment adviser, a research analyst or a distributor, in India or anywhere else, and nothing on any screen is a solicitation.

A projection is a sentence about your own assumptions

The retirement year, the corpus target and the line on the net-worth chart are what your own inputs imply if nothing changes. Markets change, incomes change, and inflation is a number somebody typed. Treat every forward figure as a way of testing an assumption, never as a forecast.

The tax figures are a working, not a return

The slabs and the ladder behind the drawer are the published rates applied to what you entered. They are not a filed return, they are not reviewed by anybody, and they do not know about the half of your affairs this app never sees. Use them to plan; use a chartered accountant to file.

The numbers are only as good as the file

Everything here is derived from what you imported. A column mapped to the wrong thing, a duplicated statement, a missing month — the app shows you what it read and how it read it, and that is the check. Nothing reconciles itself behind your back.

Your side

Four things, and none of them are surprising.

Bring your own figures, not somebody else's

Upload what is yours to upload. A statement belonging to somebody who has not agreed to it being here is not, and neither is a spreadsheet you took from an employer.

One household, the people in it

An account belongs to a person and works in one household. Sharing it with somebody outside that household means handing them every figure in it, which is a thing you can do and a thing we would not.

Don't attack the thing

No scraping, no automated hammering, no trying to reach another household's data, no uploading something built to break the parser. If you find a way in, contact@rasoi.io would genuinely like to hear about it first.

The board is public

What you post to the requests board is read by everybody signed in. Keep figures out of it — nothing on that board should be a number from your own ledger, and nothing there is covered by the privacy promises the rest of this app makes.

Our side

What is promised, and what honestly isn't.

It is free, and it is a small team's work

There is no charge, no plan and no card on file. There is also no support desk and no service level: a mail to the address on the Contact page reaches the people who build the app, and they answer when they can.

It can go away

This is run by a small team on a rented server. If it ever has to stop, there will be notice and a way to take your data out before it does — but the honest version of “free forever” is “free for as long as we keep paying for a virtual machine”, and you should keep your own copy of anything you would miss.

Your data stays yours

Nothing you put here is licensed to us for anything except running the app for you. What you post to the requests board is the one exception, and only so far as showing it to other people signed in and keeping it on the board is concerned.

Something here unclear? Write to contact@rasoi.io — a person reads it.
